Bleeding Of Hydraulic Cylinders

The basic idea behind any hydraulic system is that force that is applied at one point can be transmitted to another point using a fluid.

This should be possible without loss of force and so it is important that the fluid transmitting the force is incompressible. If the fluid is contaminated with air, then the force applied will be lost slightly compressing the air in the fluid -  making the hydraulic system innefficient, or inaccurate.

Hydraulic cylinders therefore require bleeding to ensure that, once fully sealed, no air is left in the hydraulic cylinder which may impair its performance.
